Hymer Motorhome Clubs
Hymer motor homes really need no introduction. They are big, brash and exude a confidence that only comes with holding such a strong position in the European motor home industry. With a ‘dash board shelf’ that is large enough to sleep on, they carry their very own special differences that just smack of…Hymer motor homes. The Hymer name has been around since the late 50’s and the first motor home came into existence in 1961. It was the Borgward B611 and came with a scintillating 3 layouts. If that wasn’t exciting enough, they continued to plough on with developments based around Mercedes base vehicles and decided to take the motor home world by storm. Over the years a variety of base vehicles have been added not least of which being the faithful Fiat Ducato. By the late eighties Hymer motor home sales had exceeded 25,000. By 2004 they had produced 100,000 vans and are still going strong even now. They even took a breather in the 70’s to provide a range of ‘Super Vans’ for the richest folk on the planet; a range of ultra luxurious motor homes that literally defy description. Hymer motor homes are now synonymous with quality and reliability and recognised by the ‘snub’ nosed design which has stood the brand so well over the years; to the point that any motor home fan can see a Hymer coming from miles away! To say there are a few Hymer motor home clubs around would be an understatement. The rest of us poor souls, without such a van of distinction, can only breathe a sigh of relief that they don’t all decide to meet on the same day at the same place; the sheer weight of vans could unbalance the continental shelf itself.
